Visitor Programs
Program Overview
The Stanford Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics participates in several programs to offer a variety of different learners and trainees the opportunity to learn more about Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP). Below we describe the different opportunities for visiting. At the bottom of the page is a DBP Visitor Request Form that should be completed and submitted if you are interested in pursuing one of these opportunities.
Opportunities for Stanford Undergraduate Students
The Stanford Immersion in Medicine Series (SIMS) program provides Stanford undergraduates who are interested in pursuing medicine an opportunity to shadow physicians at Stanford.
If you are an undergraduate Stanford student interested in observing our clinical service through the SIMS program, please contact us prior to enrolling in MED160 to investigate whether one of our physicians is available to participate in the program that quarter.
Please visit the Stanford Course Catalog and SIMS Program Website for more information.
Stanford students who are interested in pursuing a research project with a DBP faculty member or laboratory should reach out to the potential mentor about opportunities. Please consider whether you are interested in a time-limited project, such as a summer project, or a long-term project, such as an honors thesis. If an arrangement can be made, then the student should complete the form below.
Opportunities for Medical Students
Clerkship
Eligible Stanford and away/visiting medical students who are interested in the field of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics are invited to spend 2 to 4 weeks with us.
If you are an away/visiting student (typically in fourth/final year at a school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Education Department of the American Osteopathic Association), please review the eligibility criteria and application process.
Visit the Stanford Medical School course catalog for more information.
Opportunities for Residents
Away/Visiting Residents and Fellows
Away/Visiting residents and fellows who are interested in a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) elective are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the information on the GME website. For residents, please also visit the Stanford Pediatrics residencey program website for more information because a DBP elective would be completed through the Department of Pediatrics.
Stanford Residents
All Stanford Pediatric residents participate in a required DBP rotation. We are delighted when Stanford Pediatric residents also are interested in a DBP elective rotation. After discussion with your program directors and coordinators to determine your elective rotation eligibility, please reach out to us directly or through the DBP Visitor Request Form and specify the Area of interest.
Opportunities for Established Clinicians
Visiting observerships in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) may be arranged for established clinicians. However, given the high volume of learners in our DBP clinics, availability of visiting observerships is very limiited. Priority is given to individuals who are interested in returning to training, and who are competitive applicants for our DBP training program. Given the lengthy clearance process, it is recommended that you contact us at least six-months before your target visit dates.
Visiting Observers cannot recieve credit, nor participate clinically in any capacity. The hospital grants Visiting Observer clearance as a courtesy to allow for clinical exposure to interested parties. The maximum observership with Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics is two weeks.
