International collaborative office rounds 2

Principal Investigator: Heidi Feldman, MD, PhD

Study Description: Up to 20% of children in the United States have a behavioral or emotional disorder at any given time, as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition. Many of these children do not receive timely assessment, accurate diagnosis and/or adequate treatment with problems often enduring into adulthood. For children who live in poverty or low resource areas, and those who experience trauma or toxic stress, the consequences of undiagnosed and untreated mental health and developmental problems are amplified. We developed a model for international collaboration on the evaluation and management of such problems, a project called International Collaborative Office Rounds.

Three to four sites from different geographical regions meet monthly via teleconferencing. Each site has approximately 5 pediatric primary care providers, DBP and/or CAP and other MCH professionals who care for children with developmental, behavioral and emotional problems. This model greatly expands the reach and breadth of Collaborative Office Rounds.
