Ayudando Latinos A Soñar: Promoting Resilience/Innovative Medical-community partnership and Early Start

About

ALAS PRIMES (Promoting Resilience/Innovation Medical community partnership and Early Start) is a unique collaboration between Stanford University School of Medicine Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics and Ayudando Latinos A Soñar (ALAS) https://www.alasdreams.com/. Supported by a Department of Developmental Services Service and Equity Grant, the ALAS PRIMES Family Advocacy Care team provides culturally and linguistically relevant care coordination support and advocacy to families within the largely Latino/Hispanic community served by ALAS.

Physically embedded within the nonprofit community-serving agency (ALAS), our Stanford ALAS PRIMES team identifies children at risk for developmental disorders and helps families access developmental care from local service agencies. Dedicated to support the vulnerable farmworker, Newcomer, and immigrant communities along the coast, our team travels to local farmworker communities and utilizes Zoom and transportation support to serve geographically and linguistically isolated families that may need help accessing developmental services.

We have achieved a high level of community trust as we support referrals to the Regional Centers that support developmental services for children under the age of 3 and with lifelong developmental disabilities.  We also work with families to make appropriate referrals to ALAS (e.g. mental health, immigration support, farmworker services, tutoring) and other generic services. We have most recently partnered with Speech Goals https://speechgoals.com/and the Golden Gate Regional Center Early Start program https://www.ggrc.org/about-us/guiding-legislation#What_is_Early_Start to bring bilingual Spanish/English speech therapy to the families that we serve at our Half Moon Bay office.
